Kites for Climate Training (Nelson Mandela Day 2017)

Kites for Climate Training (Nelson Mandela Day 2017)

Fri 21st Jul [10:00] → 21st Jul 2017

The kites for Climate aims at training young people on how to make beautiful kites and use them to advocate for climate change action. Kites have captured the creative imagination of cultures all over the world. In addition to being fun, kite flying serves many purposes. It is an inclusive activity that brings communities together and promotes positive social connections and celebration. In this training, we will educate young people about climate change, as well as share instructions for how to make a beautiful kite that includes inspiring messages to promote climate change action.

The training is free and participants should come along with;

  • Heavy-duty plastic bag (you can use garbage or recycled plastic bag - just make sure it does not have holes)
  • Two thin hardwood sticks (or dowels0, at least as long as your plastic bag.
  • Piece of wood or cardboard for the winder
  • Paper, such as gift wrapping paper, writing paper, old magazines or old newspapers
